De bessen worden gebruikt voor geneeskrachtige doeleinden, o.a. om leverkwalen te bestrijden of als middel tegen hoesten, astma en andere aandoeningen van de luchtwegen.

Habitat: Forests and slopes at elevations of 500 - 2,000 metres.
