Themes

The Panama hat palm is known for its strong fiber and has been used to weave Panama hats for over 300 years. In Ecuador there are special plantations for the 'hat industry' and the hats are also made here. However since the hats are exported from Panama City, the name of the hat is associated with Panama.

Description: Herb, palm-like, no woody trunk.
Distributions: Central america, south america
Habitat: Tropical lowland and submontane rainforest.

Flower color: Green
Notes on flowers: The inflorescence resembles a thin, green pineapple - a large flask covered in bowl-shaped lobes that house both the male and female flowers.
