Attracts hummingbirds.

The culred leaf heads are mostly eaten cooked, but can also be used raw in salads. The best part of the hosta is the ‘hoston’, the rolled up leaf as it emerges in the spring.

Most of the Hosta sp. that provide the modern plants were introduced from Japan to Europe by Philipp Franz von Siebold in the mid-19th century.

Description: Herb, to 60 cm.
Distributions: E. asia, japan
Habitat: Rich fertile soils in mountain valleys and forest margins.
Year cycle: Perennial (polycarpic decidous)
Hardiness: Colder than -4 f (very hardy)
Flowering period: Mei - september
Flower color: White, purple
Notes on flowers: Lilac-tinged white, bell-shaped flowers in dense racemes on stems to 75cm.
Fruiting period: Augustus - oktober
At its best: Juni - augustus
